Store Review (Vintage Cellar, Blacksburg VA): Aged for 2 years in cask. It has a rustic blackberry, scorched earth and leather-scented bouquet with touches of pressed flowers. The palate is well-balanced with crisp tannins, expressive black tarry fruit and a Bordeaux-like finish. Drink now-2016.

My Review: This wine basically smelled like you poured multiple shots of Whiskey into a nice red wine. Oaky, leathery, and earthy aromas were absolutely dominant and pretty much covered up all other aromas coming from this wine. A little sweetness was evident in the background but it was nowhere near as strong as the whiskey smell. The wine itself had a little less body than I expected and it appeared to be brownish/red in color. The taste was unique for a red wine. It was very tannic, very smokey, with hints of blackberries and really ripe plums. The whiskey flavors weren't as evident in the taste as they were in the nose, but it definitely was there. Based on these earthy, leather, oaky flavors, I expected the finish to be hot. Surprisingly, it wasn't very hot at all. The finish was rather crisp and smooth. Would pair perfectly with a smoked meat or barbeque dinner.
